Awards and Recognition

In recent years, ICL has received growing recognition of its significant efforts to enhance sustainability in all aspects of its operations. Sustainability related awards and high rankings have been achieved on global, regional, and site basis. \

Following are some of these rankings and awards from recent years:

In 2020, and for the first time ever, ICL was included in the FTSE4Good Index (for companies with strong ESG practices). ICL’s FTSE ESG overall rating has risen from a score of 2.8/5 (56%) to 3.5/5 (70% of max score). ICL has risen from the 49% percentile among hundreds of ranked chemical companies to the 66% percentile.

ICL was awarded the maximum Platinum + ranking, for the second straight year, in the 2020 Maala Corporate Responsibility index (for 2019 performance). The Maala ranking is the leading sustainability index for business in Israel. Scores are based on detailed criteria regarding diverse aspects of sustainability: environmental protection, business ethics, diversity and fairness in employment, community engagement, corporate governance, sustainable procurement and others.

In 2020, for the second straight year, ICL was selected for the second time as one of 325 public companies worldwide to be included in the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI). The GEI distinguishes companies that are committed to transparency in reporting their gender policy and advancing gender equality. ICL is the only Israeli company included in the Bloomberg GEI, as well as the only company among its major global peers in the fertilizers sector.  

In the 2020 BDI ranking for “Best Companies to Work for”, ICL was ranked 38th among all Israeli ranked employers (a leap of 46 places in two years, compared with 84th place in 2018). ICL ranked in 5th place among all Israeli industrial companies in 2020. This survey-based ranking measures the views of Israeli employees and managers regarding their current and preferred places of work and also takes into account their companies’ investment in human capital. ICL monitors this ranking as one of its KPIs related to its commitment to being an Employer of Choice. 

ICL completed its second global Ecovadis sustainability assessment in early 2020. ICL ranked among the top 11% of scores among 30,000 globally ranked suppliers for its 2020 assessment. ICL received a score of 62/100 – a silver ranking –  just under the gold ranking threshold (>=66). See our score summary here

In late 2019, ICL received an overall 68 (of 100) Bloomberg ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) score for its 2018 reporting and performance. For the first time ever, ICL’s score was the highest among its global fertilizer peers. It is also the highest among all Israeli companies ranked by Bloomberg.

For its 2019 CDP Climate report, ICL received the second-best possible CDP ranking of “A-”, improving from the previous year’s “B” ranking. The 2019 score was best among all Israel-based companies and tied for best among global fertilizer producers. ICL also received the score of “A-“, in the CDP’s sub-ranking, the Supplier Engagement Rating (SER). 

In 2019, ICL was recognized as one of IFA’s Industry Stewardship Champion Gold Medalist companies. The award recognizes fertilizer companies that promote transparency and corporate responsibility, by committing to sustainable practices, and by voluntarily providing IFA with recent performance data in the areas of safety, production emissions and energy efficiency. The award expresses ICL’s strategic commitment to foster a strong and proactive safety & sustainability culture to ensure the company’s continuous ‘Right to Operate’, as well as to advance management practices in all sustainability areas.

The PolyStyreneLoop circular economy project, initiated by ICL the Netherlands Terneuzen in cooperation with additional partners, won the Blue Tulip Award 2020 in the climate category. The Blue Tulip Award identifies the most promising startups and innovations in the Netherlands. The award recognizes the innovative technology behind PolyStyreneLoop, its disruptive business model as a cooperative and the scalable solution with impact that brings the circular economy into action.

In early 2020, ICL Specialty Fertilizers’ Water Conservation Agent product, H2Flo, received a silver ranking in the annual LAMMA Innovation Awards, in the Arable Innovation category. The LAMMA Innovation Awards recognize and give exposure to some of the best advances in agricultural manufacturing.

In 2020, ICL The Netherlands Amfert participated in the Dutch Circular Awards and ended up in the top 10 (out of 121), for the site’s innovative circular economy pilot of producing fertilizers with recycled phosphates.

In 2019, ICL Food Specialties won the FI Innovation Award in the Protein Category for its product ROVITARIS® FBX 360 a Faba Bean Alternative Protein Solution. The event highlights and recognizes companies from around the globe that deliver innovative solutions, services or ingredients that meet current industry challenges across 11 food categories. 

In early 2019, ICL-IP’s recently developed product, CareMag D, was awarded 3rd place in the “Functional Ingredient” innovation competition, conducted as part of the 2019 In-Cosmetic Global event. In-Cosmetics Global is the leading annual event for personal care ingredients. The award winning product, CareMag D, is a new deodorant compound containing Magnesia, which replaces Aluminum salts and antimicrobial agents. CareMag D answers the Antiperspirant and Deodorant (APD) industry requirements for natural, non-toxic, hypoallergenic ingredients.

ICL’s Global Procurement Organization (GPO) received the EIPM-Peter Kraljic award 2018 for “Value Contribution Through Sustainability & Business Intelligence”. Among else, the ICL GPO has significantly expanded it’s sustainable procurement practices in 2018-9.

ICL U.S.A Carondelet was granted a Silver Pre-treatment Award in 2019, for excellence in wastewater management, by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources (MDNR).
