Engaging Our Communities

    Engaging Our Communities

ICL strives to improve the quality of life in communities in which it operates. The company supports a variety of initiatives in the areas of education, sustainability, science and innovation aimed at empowering and strengthening the economic, social and communal fabric of these communities.  \

ICL aims to be a growth engine for growth in the communities in which it operates. In addition, the core of ICL’s social vision is based on community initiatives  in which its employees collaborate with residents and local organizations. ICL prefers to target its specific activities based on input from the communities.

ICL works to be a positive force, by donating funds to various initiatives, as well as manpower in the form of volunteering or mentoring activities. Both the communities and the company reap the rewards of ICL’s involvement, which demonstrates a social accountability and a shared sense of responsibility for the communities in which it operates.

    Quantitative details of ICL’s

Quantitative details of ICL’s community investments and donations appear in the table below. Monetary donations have slightly decreased (-6%), while monetary equivalent donations have increased- mostly due to a significant increase in work-time volunteering activities by employees. The overall donations (Monetary+equivalent) have therefore increased by 2%. The donation relative to income-before-tax decreased by 12%, mostly due to the significant increase in ICL income in 2019 VS. 2018 (excluding the 2018 one-time divestments of business assets).

A significant part of total 2018-19 monetary donations (32% in 2019)  was derived from ICL’s investment in the new Dead Sea Heritage site and visitor center, see details here.

In 2019, ICL welcomed nearly 20,000 visitors to its sites worldwide, as part of its public engagement programs. Visitors receive a first-hand experience with ICL’s production processes, and are introduced to environmental and safety practices that are implemented at all ICL sites.

    Global Social Responsibility Committee

ICL’s  Global Social Responsibility Committee is responsible for ICL’s community activities, by connecting employees to various activities and broadening employee involvement.

An important aspect of the committee’s activity is to ensure that each regions‘ activities are tailored to the needs of that region. To that end representatives of the committee work to identify regional needs in the area of social responsibility and community. The committee is headed by ICL’s EVP of Global HR, which oversees ICL’s global community engagement.
