Specialty Fertilizers

Specialty Fertilizers

ICL believes growth must never come at the expense of the environment. The Specialty Fertilizers business unit is responsible for innovative technologies implementation and precision plant nutrition to ensure we can grow better crops, plants, and grass with less. Controlled release fertilizers, fertigation, and wetting agents allow growers to optimize their yields, reduce fertilizer use, and save irrigation water. \

Controlled Release Fertilizers

Plants can use nutrients from Controlled Release Fertilizers (CRFs) with great efficiency. Thanks to the high nutrient use efficiency and precise, localized application (at the plant root zone), growers worldwide can reduce fertilizer usage and simultaneously achieve higher quality crops and yields with a lower environmental impact.

The use of CRFs can reduce the total use of fertilizers by 20% to even 50%, and significantly reduce their environmental impact. CRFs can reduce leaching rates by up to 55%; denitrification rates by up to 40%; and volatilization rates by up to 40%.

By 2030, ensure sustainable food production systems and implement resilient agricultural practices that increase productivity and production, that help maintain ecosystems, that strengthen capacity for adaptation to climate change, extreme weather, drought, flooding and other disasters and that progressively improve land and soil quality.

Applying with Precision - nutrients via water

Fertigation delivers soluble fertilizers via the irrigation system to enhance crop production

Fertigation is a highly effective and flexible method that allows to apply nutrients very precisely, according to the demands of the crop. Fertilizer inputs through fertigation can be easily adapted to the soil, fertility status and the growth stages of any crop.

This has dual benefits:

  1. it can increase the potential yield of a crop thanks to precise and timely nutrient inputs that match the crops needs
  2. the amount of nutrients applied can be reduced thanks to the decrease of leaching or volatilization.

ICL Specialty Fertilizers sets the standard in fertigation with the unique PeKacid™ Technology. This technology’s acidifying effect:

  • Enhances nutrient uptake
  • Lowers pH in irrigation water
  • Prevents clogging of irrigation drippers and pipes

By 2020, achieve the environmentally sound management of chemicals and all wastes throughout their life cycle, in accordance with agreed international framework and significantly reduce their release to air, water and soil in order to minimize their adverse impacts on human health and the environment.

Water management & conservation

ICL has developed a range of wetting agents ( H2Flo) for use in agriculture, horticulture, and professional turf. The products optimize plant quality, allow better water availability in the root zone, and help conserve precious water resources.
